A Haute Hair Salon in Bed-Stuy for Ladies and Gents

H2 Salon on Tompkins Avenue has opened its doors!

One type of business Bed-Stuy certainly is in no shortage of are hair salons.

Just take a stroll down Fulton Street: After but a few blocks, you will notice that hair salons are popular in this neighborhood, and they stay packed with customers.

But if you’re looking for a salon experience minus the assembly line feel, one with a Manhattan-style aesthetic and Brooklyn-style prices, then you’re in luck. Because H2 Salon has just opened its doors!

Bed-Stuy resident Dailey Greene opened H2 Salon, located at 473 Tompkins Avenue, in January to focus on her first love-- pampering and styling hair-- while also offer Bed-Stuy residents an upscale, more personalized salon experience.

Greene, 32, said as long as she can remember, styling hair has been her first love.

“I remember in the third grade saving my allowance to go buy Queen Helene Gel and Cholesterol to do my doll’s hair,” she said smiling. “I would do my friends’ hair in my kitchen, and I braided hair in college.”

But even during her time in college, Greene treated hair styling as a hobby and side hustle. After graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in education, she went on to teach middle school for a few years.

“And then I took a look at my life and made a self-assessment and said, My life is going to be very mundane and plain if I stay just teaching,” Green recalled. “So I dropped everything, decided to go to beauty school... and be broke,” she laughed, "all to do hair!"

Greene started working as an assistant at a hair salon in Manhattan during the day while attending the Aveda Institute at night.

After receiving her certification, she then spent some time working at a Manhattan Salon learning the tricks of the trade-- how to run the business and style a variety of hair types-- before finally deciding to open a salon of her own in Bed-Stuy.

H2 Salon stands for “him+her,” and offers haute hair styling services to men and women of all hair types and textures.

Greene, who grew up on Franklin and Prospect in Crown Heights, said she loves Bedford-Stuyvesant and is excited to see how the neighborhood responds to the new salon:

“I love this neighborhood! I lived in Park Slope before, and I found it a bit stuffy and pretentious,” she said. “And then I moved to Bed-Stuy with reservations. And now I totally love it. I love the grocery store, I love the people, I love the restaurants. I’m here to stay!”

H2 Salon is open Monday through Friday by appointment only, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

To schedule an appointment, contact Dailey Greene at 718-230-h2bk (4225) or info@h2bk.com. You can also visit H2 Salon’s website at www.h2bk.com.

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
