4 Questions: Ice Cream House

A quick conversation with Bed-Stuy's local merchants

Victor Klein, owner of Ice Cream House, 873 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY.

Open 1 year.

Four Questions:

#1. What do you sell?

A: Kosher ice cream, 50 flavors total

#2. What sparked your interest in this particular field?

A: I’ve always loved ice cream. I eat it all the time, breakfast, lunch and supper. My favorite flavor is coffee.

#3. From a business owner’s perspective, what is your impression of Bedford-Stuyvesant?

A: I grew up in Crown Heights, but I now live in Borough Park. This Bed-Stuy location is actually the third one I’ve opened. I have two others: one in Flatbush, and another in Borough Park. But this location does very well; it’s very surprising how people come from all over, even Manhattan.

#4. Can you share something interesting about yourself or the store?

Aside from kosher ice cream, we also have a big selection of non-dairy, vegan ice cream. And we also have a big salad bar!

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
