Brooklyn Queens Land Trust Seeks New Board Members

Community Leaders: Apply by February 15th to join the BQLT board of directors.

Dear Community Leaders:

We are writing to ask for your help as we seek candidates to serve as members of the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust board. Experience and specific skills such as property management, community organizing, accounting, promotions and marketing, finance or banking, environmental science, property law, horticulture and or fundraising and grant-writing would be valuable assets for the board.

The Brooklyn Queens Land Trust (BQLT) is an independent land trust composed of 32 of the BQLT community-gardens saved from the 1999 city auction. We are currently grounded in 16 neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens. Incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in 2004, BQLT is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization, and one of the largest urban land trusts in the United States. The 15-member BQLT board of directors consists of gardeners and resource persons.

Our mission is to educate and inspire people of all ages to become successful and environmentally responsible gardeners. We plan to add new gardens in the future. We need skilled persons to help us lead, build and manage our new land trust beyond our garden gates. To this end, we seek the guidance of a strong board of directors working with garden members, to ensure that BQLT will prosper and survive.

We hope you can help us by identifying and nominating candidates that you think we should pursue for our board, perhaps even yourself.

We would welcome the opportunity to share more about BQLT with you and enourage you to reach out to the contact people below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Visit: bqlt.org/Special/BoardAppeal/ for more info and to download the appropriate forms.

The deadline for nomination forms is February 15, 2013.

Sincerely,

The BQLT Nominations Committee

Brothel Dean, Chairperson
