Hip Hop: Where Are We Now?
Are you a rap star or a hip hop artist? (Yes, there is a difference!) Obviously, hip hop has evolved over the last four decades. Our youth has been fixed on the latest rapper, the latest fashion, what he/she does, how they look, and of course, what they say.
Remember when hip hop was fun, when emcees (not rappers) could rock the mic for the love of the music, not just for a check; when they had a message, and did things for their community? What happened?
We've gotten so caught up into self, egos, million dollar contracts, and take, take, take. After 30 years of hip hop, I'd returned last year to go back to the simple elements of rap music, make it simple and enjoyable. Meanwhile, headlines read about the 'you-know-whos', who got beef, who got the most bling, etc. Can our youth be saved? Is Hip Hop Dead? What's going on in the hip hop communities? ....To Be Continued!
