12th Annual KIDflix Film Fest of Bed-Stuy!

KIDflix Film Fest of Bed-Stuy! is a FREE film festival for kids and their families every Friday in August in Fulton Park. Organizers: Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) & TRUE.

You are reading this post because you live in, near, or care about the Bedford-Stuyvesant Community. Or perhaps you love to see happy kids learning while they have fun. Your kids and the rest of the family is invited to attend the 12th annual KIDflix Film Fest of Bed-Stuy!KIDflix goes on every Friday Night in August in Fulton Park (Stuyvesant Ave & Fulton / Harriet Tubman, "A" or "C" to Utica). This Friday, August 5, is the Opening Night of the 12th Season! The point of this for-us-by-us festival is to share with the community facets of the African Diaspora history & culture with which some of us may not be familiar. The first film is called "Brownstones to Red Dirt," a documentary about kids from Bed-Stuy's Marcy Projects who connect through a pen pal program to kids orphaned by Sierra Leone's brutal civil war. The Director & kids from the film will be there for Q & A. But that's not all! In addition, Jamel Gaines’ Creative Outlet Dance Company will open the festival with an amazing dance performance from its Youth Dance Academy. You can help support KIDflix in the following ways:1. You can write a tax-deductible check to MoCADA, or even drop, a suggested, $5 or more cash donation in our contribution jar each Friday. Any amount is appreciated. No amount is too large or too small.2. Volunteers are needed to transport equipment to and from the park. Volunteers are needed for the remaining 3 Fridays (Aug 12, 19 and 26). If you have a SUV, van, or a mid-size car and a few free Friday nights, your helping hand would be appreciated.3. Volunteers are needed for set up each week at 3pm. Nothing hard core: setting up chairs, setting up equipment, handing out fliers to people getting off the train, etc. The bonus for coming early (aside from the pizza) is that after set up, TRUEdj, will DJ an impromtu dance party until the film starts!Even if you can't do any of the above, come on out and join your friends, family, and neighbors as we share in this Bed-Stuy tradition! The show starts at 7 pm. SPREAD THE WORD! Visit the KIDflix facebook page, "like" them, and tell everyone you know in the community where to be every Friday night in August.Volunteers can contact TRUE, KIDflix co-organizer at TRUE@TRUErealty.bizemail: TRUE@TRUErealty.biz or cel: 718. 812. 0158The KIDflix Film Fest of Bed-Stuy! is a FREEannual film festival for kids and their families held every Friday night in August in Stuyvesant Heights' Fulton Park.
