Report: Gillibrand Seeking to Landmark Brooklyn Navy Yard

Navy Yard could be added to National Register of Historic Places.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced her support for adding the Brooklyn Navy Yard to the National Register of Historic places on Thursday, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.

She reportedly said she supported the Navy Yard's quest to be added to the register after touring a high-tech design firm and the yard's military manufacturing  facility.

According to the paper, being placed on the register would allow the Navy Yard, which now houses tech startups and a film studio, among other businesses, to claim tax breaks to help generate new jobs.

The status would also allow the Navy Yard to spend money restoring and preserving the historic buildings on their site. It is contingent on approval from New York State and the federal government.
