WHAT: Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturday: Remixing the American Story

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 6, 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Bklyn

WHY GO: At the Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturdays, thousands of visitors enjoy free programs of art and entertainment each month. All evening long, the Museum Café serves a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, and beverages, and a cash bar offers wine and beer. Enjoy highlights, such as Michael Hill’s Blues Mob at 5 p.m. with blues-flavored rock, R&B, and funk. At 7 p.m., Frankie Rose performs dream-pop melodies from classic eighties rock. At 8:45 p.m., hip-hop group Brown Bag All Stars lays down fresh beats influenced by 1990s East Coast rap.

HOW MUCH:  Free (donations encouraged); Parking is a flat rate of $5 starting at 5:00 p.m.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 6, 7:00 p.m., Prospect Park Bandshell

WHY GO: THEOPHILUS LONDON, “who seems to have studied his Prince, his Andre 3000, and, especially and perhaps most surprisingly, his PM Dawn,” (Philadelphia Inquirer) comes off “like a boastful, macho Janelle Monáe [who] attempts to bridge the 1950s and the 2050s.” (Details) With the French-Cameroonian sisters LES NUBIANS, whose “unique Afropean soul lifts the spirit and moves the feet,” (USA Today) and the reduction stutter funk of Brooklyn’s AABARAKI.

WHAT: Hunger Games

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 6, 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Von King Park at Lafayette and Marcy Avenues

WHY GO: A day of fun and games to benefit the pantry of Bed-Stuy’s Campaign Against Hunger! (Four Team Kickball Tournament, Three Legged Race, Water Balloon Toss, Sack Race). There will be a BBQ and drinks available! Come on out!

HOW MUCH: Bring canned and boxed food to donate!

 

WHAT: The Afrodisiac Experience Reloaded

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 6, 10:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m., For My Sweet, 1104 Fulton Street between Classon and Claver Pl.

WHY GO: Hosted by Amma Whatt, HIP HOP EXTRAORDINAIRES/SOUNDTRACK 63's 
CHEN LO AND TUTTY AMIN W/LIVE BAND will perform! SPINNING THE BEST OF 90'S HIP HOP, REGGAE, SOCA, HOUSE, AFRO BEAT, SLOW JAMZ, SALSA, DIRTY SOUTH AND OTHER CLASSIC SUMMERTIME VYBEZ!
