Get Out: Free Market Place, Brownstone Jazz and the 2013 FiddleFest!

WHY GO: Come be a part of the best-kept secret in local jazz talent before it’s over. It’s a once-a-year event that you do not want to miss!
HOW MUCH: $20, includes fish fry at intermission  

WHAT: The Noel Pointer Foundation Fiddlefest 2013

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, April 27, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Brooklyn School of Music and Theatre, 883 Classon Ave
WHY GO: Over 200 musicians from 26 New York public schools will converge in one place for the Noel Pointer Foundation’s 10th annual Fiddlefest. Fiddlefest is a rare opportunity for all of the students served by NPF to come together, mingle, and most importantly, play music with each other and their teaching artists. These young musicians will present everything from folk (exp. “Blueberry Jam” by Bonnie Greene) to classical music (exp. “Perpetual Motion” by Suzuki). NPF teaching artists, as the New Legacy String Ensemble, will give a special performance of the late Noel Pointer’s “Night Song.”

WHAT: Finding Your Voice: Young Writers Celebrating Freedom WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, April 27, 3:00 p.m., BLDG 92,

WHY GO: April is National Poetry Month. Enjoy some FREE poetry, inspired by Brooklyn Navy Yard and written by the talented young poets. Bed-Stuy’s own Angeli Rasbury will lead the poets under the direction of The Walt Whitman Project.

WHAT:
Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, April 27, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
WHY GO: This is a great way for kids to get active and also get a jump on summer. All day, the YMCA will feature fun activities that encourage exercise and active play. Other planned events include: --Dance and fitness classes --Summer camp registration --Healthy snack-making class --And much, much more!
HOW MUCH: Free!  

WHAT: The Free Marketplace

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, April 28, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Free Candy, 905 Atlantic Avenu
WHY GO:  Someone recently asked what’s so special about The Free Marketplace. Well, aside from featuring the freshest artists and artisan goods, this market is a full-on day party, rockin’, shoppin’, learnin’ and loungin’ experience for the entire family!
