Juneteenth is celebrated worldwide, but there’s no better place to bring in the holiday than the heart of Brooklyn!  On June 24th, KowTeff African Dance Company, in collaboration with Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza’s Skylight Gallery, will be bringing you a full day of high-spirited Juneteenth festivities.  Come out to the historic Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza to celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest known holiday commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.

The event will feature a vibrant, open-air bazaar with an African marketplace, music, live drumming, stilt walkers, fashion show, and health and wellness expo offering consultations, workshops, and dance and fitness classes (for children and adults) – all free of charge!  Enjoy live entertainment including an outdoor program by KowTeff African Dance Company featuring several of their most dynamic pieces, singing, and spoken word.  In the tradition of Juneteenth, the program will include guest speakers to reflect on where we stand as a Black Community and a special acknowledgment of this year’s honoree, longtime Brooklyn educator and activist, Jitu Weusi. There is something for everyone…bring family and friends! Celebrate Juneteenth -- a time for rejoicing, reflection, and renewal!

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
