Brooklyn Girl Film Festival

Three days of Shorts and Features! Raffles! Workshops! Discussions!

This year’s festival will take place at Launchpad, a community space in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The dramatic feature, “The People You Know,” will open the festival. This directorial debut by Elizabeth Spear of Austin, TX explores how a weekend with old friends might change relationships forever. The film was shot on the modest budget of $12,000.

Also featured will be, “The Big Bad,” by NYC writer/producer, Jessi Gotta. This horror feature tells the story of a broken woman obsessed with revenge desperately searching for the monster who destroyed her family, she unexpectedly finds herself in a surreal and frightening world.

 

Closing the festival is the comedy feature, “Knight Knight” by United Kingdom filmmaker, Christina Bucher. Two saddle sore knights go on a quest for love, adventure, and comfortable underwear.

 

The festival will also feature many short films by NYC based filmmakers as well as filmmakers from around the globe. Some local highlights include the world premiere sci-fi short, “Passengers of 7D” by Brooklyn filmmaker Sharifa Williams, and the compelling short doc, “Living with Tommy,” about a young boy living with a rare condition by Staten Island filmmaker, Aubrey Carp.

 

The festival program will include a social media marketing workshop by producer Amy Greenlaw of FilmPOP! Brooklyn filmmaker Leah Meyerhoff will discuss how to transition from making short films to features. Meyerhoff’s film, Unicorns is in post production and is supported by Sundance and the Independent Feature Project (IFP).

 

A brunch and awards ceremony are also scheduled to take place.

 

Films are “in competition” and the audience will vote for best feature and best short, spanning all genres.
