13th Annual KIDflix Film Fest of Bed-Stuy w/ a Special Tribute to Whitney Houston

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and the African Film Fest (AFF) celebrate the 13th Annual Kidflix Film Fest of Bedford-Stuyvesant throughout the month of August! Not only will there be newly released films and live performances but you can also expect children’s art workshops, face painting, food, and Q&A opportunities with the directors.

 

August 3rd: Opening night

Featured film: Freedom Riders, by Stanley Nelson.

An inspiring documentary about 400 college students who decided to risk everything in 1961 to fight segregation in the Deep South.

Featured Film:  The First Grader, by Justin Chadwick.

This moving film follows Mau Mau, a Kenyan veteran who decides that even in his eighties he deserves a long denied education – even if it means going to class with six-year-olds.

August 24th: Elmo Night! Join us to celebrate one of the world's most recognizable and adored characters.

Featured film: Being Elmo, by Constance Marks.

The film traces Kevin Clash's rise from his modest beginnings in Baltimore to his current success as the man behind Elmo.

August 31st: “Sing and Dance Along”

Featured Film: The Wiz, directed by Sidney Lumet

Lena Horne as Glenda the Good Witch, Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, and Diana Ross – what’s not to love about this 1970 urban adaptation of a beloved story?

Preceding the film, there will be a SPECIAL MUSICAL TRIBUTE to Michael Jackson, Lena Horne, Whitney Houston, Etta James, and Don Cornelius.
