Bed-Stuy's Slave Theater Could See Performances Again
Despite sale of building, performances likely to continue at 300-seat venue.
New Brooklyn Theater, the group seeking to restore performances to Slave Theater in Bed-Stuy, said they were in negotiations to help that happen over the next few months.
In a letter posted on the theater's Facebook page Sunday, artistic director Jonathan Solari said the group was poised to make some big announcements in the coming months.
While the promises were ultimately vague, the letter promised Bed-Stuy residents that the neighborhood theater would once again be a venue for local performances rather than a condo development.
"Our goal has always been to create a new home for the performing arts in Brooklyn by restoring theatre to 1215 Fulton Street," Solari wrote.
He also said the theater group was hoping to expand into Fort Greene in a multi-pronged approach to reestablishing Brooklyn performance arts.
