5 Things: Red Hook Jazz Fest and Park Slope Dog Dash

Plus the Victorian Flatbush House Tour, a Juneteenth Celebration and the CampPanic summer camp fair.

1. See how the other half lives. Today is the annual Victorian Flatbush House Tour 2013 where you can get a good look at the lovingly preserved interiors of 10 homes. You can take the self-guided tour anytime between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The $25 fee also includes an optional shuttle bus between the houses. While you're there, stop at the Art and Craft In The Garden featuring the work of 14 artisans, all carefully chosen for skill and diversity of their crafts.

2. Have some tail-wagging fun. Join the Park Slope Dog Dash, a family-friendly (and dog-friendly) scavenger hunt around Park Slope to benefit Foster Dogs NYC, a nonprofit that helps shelters facilitate the fostering process. Hunt begins at 11:45 a.m. at The Gate, 321 Fifth Avenue at 3rd Street. More details here. $20 per person.

3. Get jazzed. Today is also the first day of the Red Hook Jazz Festival, which continues June 16. It takes place at Urban Meadow, a community garden on the Columbia Waterfront District. According to organizers, the line-up "features some of the world's most forward-thinking jazz musicians and composers playing today," and this year focuses on female artists and drummers. The Urban Meadow is located at the corner of President & Van Brunt Streets inBrooklyn, NY.    Both days start at 1pm and end at 6pm. Entrance is $10 per adult/kids attend free. Details, event schedule and directions can be found here

4.Celebrate the end of slavery. Today is the first of many Juneteenth Celebrations taking place around the 19th of June, celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. Today's event takes place at Plymouth Church Sanctuary, 57 Orange St., in Brooklyn Heights. It features performances by Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens and The Welcome Wagon.

5. Find the kids a camp. Parents: public school ends in a few weeks, and many private schools have already ended so if you haven't found something for your kids too do over the summer, now's the time. But don't, um ... panic, because according to the company CampPanic! a lot of camps that were full in February open up spots just about now. Today there's an open house of camps, classes and  other summer activities that still have space, or you can book spots through their website. Details here.

5.5 Move the car. Alternate side parking rules will be in effect tomorrow, so grab a Tuesday spot today if you can.
