5 Things: Reading With Your Toddler and Afro-Cuban Jazz

Plus the return of the Fort Greene artisan market, a singer songwriter at Branded and a benefit choral concert.

1. See a songwriter. Kick back tonight at Branded Saloon, where singer-songwriter Pi Jacobs performs. 603 Vanderbilt at Bergen. 9 p.m. No cover. There's also Sounds and Sounds at LaunchPad and Lewis Lazar, The Likkle Big Band and Cookie Cutta & the Crisps at The Way Station.

2. Find a gift for mom. If you have to shop, why not do it at the Ft. Greene Park's Artisan-Market, a weekly fundraiser that offers carefully curated, functional and collectible work. Begins at 9 a.m.

3. Get jazzed. Tonight at BAM Cafe Live, The Steven Kroon Latin Jazz Sextet performs, sharing their "melodic, rhythmically adventurous Afro-Cuban and Brazilian-inflected jazz," according to BAM's website. Peter Jay Sharp Building,  BAMcafé, 9 p.m. Free. 

4. Rejoice in the Lamb. If you're a fan of choral music, there's also a Benefit Concert at St. Paul's in Carroll Gardens tonight, sung by the St. Paul’s Choir. According to organizers, the choir "will be exploring the enigmatic texts of 18th Century poet Christopher Smart in Benjamin Britten's cantata-like creation, "Rejoice in the Lamb," for choir and organ. They will also sing Handel's lesser-known anthem for the Duke of Chandos (ca.1716-1718), 'Let God Arise.' Suggested donation is $10. 

5. Corral the kids. For anyone with a child 3 and under check out Reading with Babies, Toddlers and Twos: A Family Event. Parents will learn how to read with a squirmy baby or a roving toddler and what e-books and apps mean for storytime?  There will also be also a full story time and kid-friendly snacks. Book Court. 11  a.m.
