Viewfinder: "Where's Walrus?"

Author and illustrator Stephen Savage pays a special visit to the Marcy branch Library

Kindergarten and first-grade students from Bed-Stuy’s Brooklyn Charter School were paid a special visit by author and illustrator Stephen Savage at the Marcy Library on Friday, March 11th. The event was held at the Brooklyn Public Library branch at 617 Dekalb Avenue.

Savage has a new picture book, “Where’s Walrus?” that he shared with the enamored students. Despite being a wordless picture book, students were still able to help Savage tell his delightful story of a wayward walrus who escapes from the zoo, thwarting a zookeeper’s attempts at catching him by wearing various disguises.

Savage also shared with the kids a “Where’s Walrus?” video used to promote the book, slides of his workspace and creative process, and even a Walrus mask, a hat-maker friend created for him.

Savage also is the illustrator of the children’s books, “The Fathers Are Coming Home” by Margaret Wise Brown and “Polar Bear Night” by Lauren Thompson. To see more of his work visit his website.
