The Second Annual Food and Family Day Kicks off This Weekend in Bed-Stuy

Join CIBS for a free, fun-filled educational day focusing on Bedford-Stuyvesant and healthy eating-- a part of Bed-Stuy Alive!

It's not over! Bed-Stuy Alive! continues, this weekend with the second annual Food and Family Day at Restoration Plaza!

Join the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford-Stuyvesant in partnership with the Brooklyn Community Foundation on Saturday, October 13, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street (between Brooklyn & New York Avenues), for a free, fun-filled educational event focusing on Bedford-Stuyvesant and healthy eating.

Food and Family Day brings together local residents, food justice advocates, urban farmers and gardeners, local businesses, educators and community organizations to examine wellness and access to healthy foods in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

This day-long community fair will offer hands-on workshops and will include topics on: How To Eat And Cook Healthy On A Family Budget; A Tour Of Local Farmers’ Markets And Green Grocers; Basic Gardening And Composting Tips; How To Become A Bed-Stuy Healthy Food Advocate; Information On What Schools In Bed-Stuy Are Doing To Eat Healthier And How You Can Get Involved; and How To Cook Fresh, Organic Baby Foods.

Kids Activities include gardening, fun exercise and art projects, outdoor yoga and exercise demonstrations. There also will be free health and EBT/WIC screenings and much more.

“CIBS, our community affiliates and program sponsors are excited to be working together to highlight the strength of the food justice movement in Bed-Stuy,” said Aysu Kirac, CIBS program manager.

“We hope that the Bedford-Stuyvesant Second Annual Food and Family Day is just the beginning in empowering residents to become engaged with the food they eat, know exactly where local healthy options exists and advocate for the overall health of our community.”

The Bedford-Stuyvesant Second Annual Food and Family Day is one of many events taking place as part of National Food Day on October 24, and the 8th Annual Bed-Stuy Alive celebration.
