The Quarter Mile Stroll on Malcom X Blvd

A way to celebrate the holidays, while also encourage residents to shop local

On Saturday, December 15, from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., the Malcolm X Merchant Association, along with Bridge Street Development Corporation, will launch The Quarter Mile Stroll, a one-day campaign where residents can take advantage of special discounts and deals at their favorite shops along Malcolm X Boulevard.

The Quarter Mile Stroll, which runs from Fulton Street to Putnam Ave along MXB, is a way to celebrate the holidays while encourage residents to shop local.

Shoppers will find restaurants, cafes, bakeries, boutiques, a wine bar & lounge, an antique furniture shop, party rental supplies and more.

"The capacity for keeping wealth in the community has a multiplying factor," said Kenneth Mbonu, director of economic development at Bridge Street. "Retaining resident-to-business owner and business-to-business trade within the community is an economic engine."

"Traditional retail strips will not survive during periods of change and decline. However, through innovation and reinvention, many small businesses have been able to survive and even grow," said Mbonu.

"We have to be the stimulants in creating our own economic destiny."

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
