Renovated Section 8 Apartment Building Unveiled

The decades-old Pulaski Street Section 8 apartment building was refurbished in hopes of guaranteeing its longevity.

City officials and affordable housing advocates celebrated the $18.5 million refinancing and renovation of a 72-unit Section 8 apartment building on Thursday, ideally ensuring that it will remain affordable for 30 years or more.

Built in the early 1970s by Bed-Stuy’s Consumer Action Program (CABS), the Pulaski Street building received a comprehensive renovation including new plumbing, heating and hot water systems as well as an updated exterior.

“CABS is delighted about this recapitalization and renovation,” President of CABS Corp. Adolfo G. Alayon said. “It will enable this building to maintain, for the foreseeable future, its original purpose: to provide high-quality, affordable housing for low-income people.”

Councilmember Albert Vann, State Senator Velmanette Montgomery and President of NYC Housing Development Corp. Marc Jahr attended the morning ribbon cutting ceremony.
