Peaches Restaurant Expands

Peaches Restaurant is expanding into what? We're not sure yet. (Because it's a secret).

So I got a tip the other day that Peaches Restaurant had taken over the old Brownstone Books space.

Hmmm, that should be interesting, I thought.  More Peaches space means more Peaches food-- a good thing.

However, the old Brownstone Books space is located about two stores and one lot down from Peaches, not at all contiguous with the restaurant. Additionally, the space is about the size of a large living room.

So I was curious to know how they were working that one out. Were they planning some sort of underground railroad operation where waitstaff would shuffle hot plates of food between the main kitchen and the new space?

The scenarios didn't quite jive in my head, so I dropped in on Craig Samuels, one of Peaches' co-owners, to get the 411 on what's going down with the Shops of Lewis Avenue (SOLA).

It turns out, yes, Peaches has in fact taken over the old Brownstone Books space. The new space serves as a catered dining area for private parties. But that's not all, because Peaches' expansion is not complete; it also will be taking over the Lewis Gallery space (which closes officially today... Stop in and say "goodbye" to Gwen and buy one of her 50% off art pieces), and combining them into one large space.

Once the buildout is complete (in about 2-3 months), the new space will become, "Well, I can't say yet, because, it's a secret," said Samuels. "But I promise, as soon as I can say, you guys will be the first to know."

So why the secrecy and why the move?

"About five months ago, Monique [Greenwood], who owns all of these buildings, came to us and said, 'this space is going to be available, are you interested?’" said Samuels. "And whenever she comes to me with something, I always listen, because she always has something good."

Nevertheless, for now, the new small space is exquisite. Everything, from the tables and chairs, to the track lighting is kept, shiny and simple.

The very first event in the new space was held on March 19, a baby shower. Since then, the space has been home to a brunch and a birthday party.

To book an event, contact Peaches Restaurant at 718-942-4162.

Hurry, because by mid-summer, the full expansions space will be doing something different.

"It’s something the neighborhood can benefit from, and we’re hoping it's what people want," said Samuels. "But it’s what we want, and it’s where we think we want to go with the brand right now."
