One Year After Sandy, Share Your Story

Where were you? How did you cope? Who helped you the most? What issues still linger one year later?

Even with all the Frankenstorm chatter leading up to it, few in Brooklyn thought they’d wake up on Oct. 30, 2012 to the type of destruction left behind by Hurricane Sandy.

Hundreds of thousands were without power, toppled trees dotted the landscape, the Rockaways were cut off from the rest of the city, homes and businesses in Red Hook were irrevocably damaged, infrastructure failed, fallen power lines injured residents and sand, debris and brush blocked one road after the next.

Now, as the one-year anniversary nears, much of the region is rebuilding or has recovered, and all that’s left of the damage remains in the personal stories of the community. We’d love to help you tell them.

In advance of the anniversary, we have created open blogs on all of our Patch sites across New York City to serve as a place where locals can share their own Hurricane Sandy stories with the rest of the region. Where were you? How did you cope? Who helped you the most? What issues still linger one year later?

Throughout the month, your stories will be featured on your community Patch’s homepage, and at the end of the month we will gather these for a larger, regional spotlight on what New York City endured after Sandy.

Here’s how you can share.
