High School to Distribute Condoms at Prom

Bedford-Stuyvesant Preparatory High School plans to give away 500 condoms

A Bed-Stuy high school is planning to give away 500 condoms for its June 7 prom as part of a sex education program, according to MSNBC.

Bedford Stuyvesant Preparatory High School, a "transfer" school of about 130 students who have had educational or disciplinary difficulties, already gives away condoms during safe sex education programs. It also houses a day care facility for the children of current students.

The condom giveaway is one of three events sponsored by condom maker NuVo, including a safe-sex education assembly and an essay contest.

Principal Darryl Rascoe said the condoms would be issued to students at the end of the prom, and was in line with the school's goal of readying students for college by helping prevent teen pregnancies.

On May 2, the condom maker issued a press release offering to donate condoms to any interested high school administration.

“We know that high school students are engaging in unprotected sex and prom is often the time when unprotected sex takes place. We really want to bring awareness of safe sex practices and want to provide our product as a way to create awareness of safe sex.” — NuVo spokesman

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
