Heritage Row Playground Dedicated

The playground was named for the Heritage Row Houses, the work of Habitat for Humanity, across the street.

Several local officials, as well as Habitat for Humanity officials, were on hand Tuesday to dedicate the new naming of Heritage Row Playground, within Pulaski Playground.

The 12 Heritage Row Houses across the street were built in 2000 by Habitat for Humanity as a way to provide affordable housing for those in need.

“Since they were built in 2000, the Heritage Row Houses have become a symbol for renewal in Bedford-Stuyvesant and an iconic part of the neighborhood’s landscape,” said Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey. “We are proud to officially name this playground as the backyard for Heritage Row residents, and grateful to Mayor Bloomberg and Council Member Vann for their continued commitment to open space in this community.”

Commissioner Jeffrey also announced at the event that thanks to another funding allocation, the adjacent field will also undergo a $1.45 million renovation. The asphalt play area will be reconstructed with color seal coating, as well as a two-lane perimeter track and two full-sized basketball courts. A fitness area, bicycle racks, benches, landscaping and perimeter fencing will also be installed, and the handball courts will be refurbished. The project is slated to begin by fall 2012.

In 2011, Pulaski Playground received a renovation that included new play equipment, spray showers, picnic tables, 1939 World’s Fair Benches, a drinking fountain, bike racks and new landscaping.
