Don't Miss: The 1st Annual Beer + Wine Festival

The festival will feature food-and-wine pairings, workshops and tastings of craft beers and regional wines and spirits

Get ready Brooklyn for the 1st Annual Brooklyn Beer & Wine Fest this Sunday, August 18, from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Lab in Bed-Stuy.

The day-long festival is sponsored by Tap + Cork, the people behind Bed-Vyne Wine, Bed-Vyne Brew and YRB Magazine, and will feature workshops and tastings of craft beers, regional wines and spirits, along with live music and food from local eateries.

“So thinking about Bed-Stuy, what’s going on as far as the renaissance, this is bringing something to people they don’t normally experience,” said Michael Brooks, co-owner of Bed-Vyne Wine.

"The over 30 set is not catered to in NYC. Most of the nightlife is focused on the emerging professional, the hood or a combination of both,” said Tai Allen, managing director of YRB Magazine. “Our goal was/is to give more life options to the seasoned folks just looking to have a great time."

According to Brooks, with the exception of a few South African wines, 80 percent of the wines and beers come from wineries and breweries upstate New York, including a wine called Fox Run—a blend that was used at the recent presidential inauguration.

The organizers also have arranged a “first-in-the-U.S.” tasting reserved for VIP attendees of House of Mandela Brut Chardonnay, a new brand by Selena Cuffe, co-founder of Heritage Link Brands, the largest importer of wine produced by Indigenous Africans.

Other featured wineries and breweries include the Sheldrake Point Winery, Brotherhood Winery, Red Newt Cellars, Captain Lawrence and Empire Brew.
