Calling all Brides-to-Be!

A local hair salon owner wants to make every bride's big day an easy and flawless affair

A woman’s wedding day is quite possibly the most special day of her life.

For that one day, she transforms into a princess bride-- a picture of beauty, the sole focus of attention and the object of great admiration.

However, unless you’ve had the unique opportunity to be on the planning side of all the pomp and circumstance, you might not realize the enormous nightmare wedding preparation can become.

For example, Corenza Handy, 30, owner of Kayhands Hair Design Studio in Bed-Stuy, remembers her own wedding day as one in which she was happy, but also a day when she was very, very stressed.

“When I got married, I had to run from getting my hair done to going to get my makeup someplace else, to running back to the hall, it was just too much.  I couldn’t find a photographer, so I booked through the event hall with their photographer,” said Handy.

“But after my wedding, the hall closed down, so I never got my video, never got my pictures, only the proofs, which I had to blow up and put in my house. So it was really stressful and really weird.”

So Handy decided to put together an all-inclusive Bridal Event day, where brides-to-be will have the chance to sample the services of a certified makeup artist, a professional hairdresser, a certified massage therapist, a professional photographer and a physical trainer (giving away a 30-day bridal bootcamp session)  – all Brooklyn-based vendors hand-picked by Handy – all in one place, for free!

“I wanted to cater to brides in a way no one else has done in this area,” said Handy.

“Brides need all these things. So me and my assistant thought of the idea where they’ll come to the salon, and we offer our services for totally free, with the intent for them to book with us whenever they’re ready to get married.”

Handy’s Bridal Event will be held this Saturday, January 27, 4:00 p.m. at Kayhands Hair Design Studio, located at 2000 Fulton Street between Howard and Saratoga avenues.

“It’s very serious, and I give them a chance to see first for themselves what they can expect on their big day,” said Handy.

"Each one of us are Brooklyn-based vendors, so it’s just a way to get ourselves lifted and get our community lifted at the same time!"
