And the Winner of the Greenest Block in Brooklyn is...

The winners were announced yesterday...

In the residential category.... (drumroll)... East 25th Street, between Clarendon Road and Avenue D in East Flatbush!

Bainbridge Street between Malcolm X Boulevard and Stuyvesant Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant tied for second place with Lincoln Road between Bedford Avenue and Rogers Avenue in Lefferts Garden.

The Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest is an annual event of BBG’s GreenBridge, promoting streetscape gardening, tree stewardship, and community development in Brooklyn. The contest is free to enter, and all participants are awarded a recognition certificate.

The other first-place winners of the 17th Annual Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest were announced. East 25th Street won first prize in the coveted residential category. Other first-place winners included Atlantic Avenue between Bond Street and Nevins Street in the commercial category. The Greenest Storefront category went to Habana Outpost, located at 757 Fulton Street. Winner of the Best Street Tree Beds was 8th Street between 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West. Best Window Box was awarded to Joyce Rooney of 430 8th Street as entered by the 8th Street Block Association.

Several Honorable Mentions were given, including:

  • 200 Decatur Street/Stuyvesant Avenue Block Association: Decatur Street between Lewis Avenue and Stuyvesant Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant
  • Citizens for a Better Community; East 39th Street between Foster Avenue and Farragut Road, East Flatbush
  • 8th Street Block Association: 8th Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue, Park Slope
  • 8th Street Block Association: 8th Street between 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West, Park SlopeFenimore Street Block Association
  • Fenimore Street between Bedford Avenue and Rogers Avenue, Lefferts Manor
