5 Things You Should Know This Week

From stress relief to flea markets, check out what's happening in Bed-Stuy this week

"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, traffic changes, important meetings and the hottest events in Bed-Stuy:

1. Already feeling burnt out with the week just beginning? Head to Essence Bar and Restaurant for Stress Relief Mondays (1662 Atlantic Ave, near Troy Ave.). Come enjoy an evening of great music, delicious food and a laid back atmosphere guaranteed to wash your worries away.

2. Looking for something to do on Tuesday night? Come check out a free Black Music Month documentary screening of Afro-Punk on Tuesday, June 14, from 6:00-7:30pm at Macon Library (361 Lewis Ave., between Halsey and Macon Sts.). Afro-Punk, a 66-minute documentary, explores race identity within the punk scene.

3. Kick off Father's Day a bit early with Fathers Day Arts and Crafts at Macon Library (361 Lewis Ave., between Halsey and Macon Sts.) on Friday, June 17, from 3:30-5:00pm. Kids can make cards or other artwork for that special dad in their life, free of charge.

4. Join WWRL radio host Mark Riley on Saturday, June 18, from 12:00-4:00pm, for the Bridge Street Development Corporation Fresh Start Home Resource Expo (460 Nostrand Ave., near Jefferson Ave.). This free, educational workshop gives you the tools you need to safe guard your home, how to get a loan modification, learn what to do if your home is in foreclosure or about to go into foreclosure.

5. The Lewis Avenue Flea Market in Bedford-Stuyvesant is in full effect, and not only is looking for participant shoppers, but also merchants/merchants. The Lewis Avenue Flea is Bed-Stuy’s first open-air market, now in its tenth season. It is open on Saturdays at the Stephen Dacatur School (MS 35), Lewis Avenue (bet. Decatur St. & MacDonough St., A-train to Utica Ave.) from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
