BedStuy welcomes a new yoga studio this fall. Beginning September 4, 2012, Hip Dhamma Yoga will offer a full schedule of weekly classes at the Freebrook Academy space at 375 Stuyvesant. Beginners and seasoned yogis alike will now have a convenient location to practice in a gorgeous landmark historic building just steps from the Utica A/C trains.
Hip Dhamma founder, Rachel Bolden-Kramer, and lead teacher Tanya Diallo Welsh, launched their studio at Freebrook this August with a weekly Saturday class. The inaugural class, on Obama's birthday, was filled to capacity. Since then, the two BedStuy residents have been inviting the input of neighbors and community in creating a local space for health and wellbeing.
"While we thought initially that we would be able to provide a more convenient studio for our neighbors who are leaving BedStuy to get their yoga classes, we have been surprised to find that the majority of our students are new to yoga entirely, many taking their first class here at Freebrook," says Bolden-Kramer. "We welcome beginners and the beginner's mind," Diallo Welsh explains, emphasizing that the class is designed to be accessible for all levels, people with injuries, and even those who think they aren't flexible enough.
Classes are Tuesday-Thursday 6:30-7:30am, and 7-8pm, in addition to Saturdays 8:30-9:30am and 10-11am. The promotional class price is $15 with online registration. Packages and deals will be offered in September. Learn more online at http://www.HipDhamma.com/yoga
