Crafty People: Community Quilt Project

Are you crafty? Do you want to be more crafty? Are you interested in learning how to sew and make things from fabric/textiles/clothing rags? Are you interested in quilt making? Do you need an excuse to get crafty? Do you want to mingle with other crafty types in a workshop environment? Come! Just curious?ALL ages are welcome!

The Bed-Stuy CommUnity Fiber Art Project is a large-scale quilt created from textiles leftovers from community clothing swaps. The completed piece will be a great example of community building around art and reuse. The vision of the project is to combine the tradition of the area’s wall murals with the craft of African-American quilt making and African textiles as well as teach new crafting skills and encourage the reuse of everyday objects.

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
