Woman Struck and Killed by Driver on Atlantic Avenue

The investigation is ongoing

Update May 4, 4:00 p.m.:

The victim, Maria Tripp, was walking northbound on Atlantic Avenue with her 19-year-old nephew, 12-year-old daughter and a cousin at the time of the accident, according to 81st Pct. police.

The car that hit the victim was a secret service agent who was on duty at the time of the accident. Police estimate the car was approximately 20 feet west of the intersection at the point of contact.

The victim died from swelling and head injuries resulting from her fall to the pavement.

A Bed-Stuy woman was struck and killed by a motorist Thursday night on Atlantic Avenue.

Police found the victim, identified as Maria Tripp, 47, of Chauncey Street, lying on the ground with head and body trauma when they arrived on the scene.

According to police reports, on Thursday, May 3, at approximately 4:48 p.m., the victim was crossing against the light with five others at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Ralph Avenue.

Reportedly, Tripp realized she might not make the light at which time she decided to try turn around and try to run back to the sidewalk and was then struck by a car.

She was transported to Interfaith Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:27 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
