SUV Crashes Into Storefront on Atlantic and Nostrand

No one was injured, said police

A speeding SUV crashed through the front of a 99-Cent store on the corner of Nostrand and Atlantic Avenues Tuesday night.

The impact shattered the glass in the store’s front windows at around 7:20 p.m., leveling several shelves and ripping off the entire front end of the truck, a Chevy Tahoe.

The driver was unharmed and no one inside of the store was harmed, according to police.

“What I know is what I [saw],” said Monique, 52, who witnessed the accident. “The car was speeding the light, and then someone hit her from the back and she lost control of the wheel and went inside of the store. Nobody got hurt, praise God for that.”

One of the store’s owners, Jenny Chen, was visibly upset, as she paced in and out of the store, while neighboring store owners helped sweep up the broken glass.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do now,” said Chen who has owned the store for three years. “There’s a lot of damage here… soap powder, bleach, everything is no good. This is a big headache for me. Just last week, another car ran into a store. This corner is very very bad for traffic."

She said she is waiting on someone from the Department of Buildings to survey the damage and tell her what she should do next.
