Jay-Z to Remember Bed-Stuy Childhood in New Rocawear Commercial
"From Marcy to Madison Square" will show footage of his rise from the Marcy housing projects to selling out Madison Square Garden.
Multi-platinum rapper and business mogul Jay-Z will pay homage to his roots selling CDs out of the trunk of a car in the Marcy public housing projects in a new commercial for his apparel brand Rocawear, reported New York Magazine.
The new commercial, set to air on MTV, BET, and TNT during NBA basketball games, will be called "From Marcy to Madison Square," and will show black and white footage of Jay-Z getting his start, to playing sold-out concerts at MSG, the report says.
New York says that the commercial may be a direct response to sluggish sales for Rocawear, and a reminder to fans that the rapper is still directly involved in the business.
Jay-Z wrote candidly of his youth growing up in Bed-Stuy in his memoir “Decoded.” Today, besides being a new father to daughter Blue Ivy, he is part owner of the Brooklyn Nets.

Dear Jay-Z:
I have a song for you to sing: "Why did Barack Obama send US Tax money to China to make US Military uniforms?" The money could be sent to Brooklyn Navy Yard where Marcy Houses residents could get jobs making US Military uniforms. It's time Jay-Z uses his star power to help the masses of poor people who need his help. Marcy Houses is not fit for human habitation and should be condemned. Jay-Z please do something to help Marcy houses.

After 2009, all US military uniforms have been manufactured in the USA. It's actually the law.

Hey Pat:
The NYCHA projects have gone to the elderly set--in very large numbers. But whether young or old people hold tenancy, Marcy projects is in very poor condition. The core issue is: will Jay-Z use his star power to help improve the horid conditions at Marcy Projects and other NYCHA housing projects. Jay-Z and everyone else who can, should reach back to help those folks in need.

You mean the folks that house cop killers. No thanks, get the rats outs and let the old folks move into these troubled projects. There are projects that are quiet and cared for and some that are not. These are not and house criminals. Get them out and make way for people that really need the space. I am sorry but I don't agree with you, but appreciate your participation in this.

Jay Z has done great for himself. He became a smart business man. If he never sells another record, he will be fine. We need him to give back to the youth of Brooklyn. Brooklyn has talent and it is my hope that someone will support the arts.
