Brooklyn Swirl Owner, Jean Alerte, to Receive NAACP Award

Local business owner will be honored on Thursday with an Entrepreneurship Award

Bed-Stuy small business owner, Jean Alerte, has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the NAACP Entrepreneurship Award.

On Thursday, November 29, 2012, the Brooklyn Branch of the NAACP will honor Alerte at the 2012 Freedom Fund Ceremony for his exemplary work in launching Brooklyn Swirl, a frozen yogurt shop in Bed-Stuy, as well as other accomplishments including serving as CEO of Carter & Associates; owner and creator of Julian Casimir Jewelry; and author of “.”

"With each award and accomplishment I receive, I am continuously inspired to do more,” Alerte told Bed-Stuy Patch. “I am honored to have the most prominent African American organization recognize my work and effort in the community.’

Alerte's early work career, coupled with family role models and corporate mentors, has molded him into a management and marketing professional in his own right.

The Brooklyn NAACP welcomes all to join them for the 2012 Freedom Fund Ceremony, Honoring their Leadership, Legacy & Achievements. The ceremony will be held at the Sheraton Brooklyn, with special guest host, Elon James White; creator of This Week in Blackness and contributing writer to The Root.

The reception is at 5:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

“I'm truly humbled to share the stage with many great leaders in Brooklyn. I look forward to continuing to serve and ‘Do Right,’” said Alerte.
