"Maria Elena was a tough, straight ahead typical Mexican fighter; she had a lot of power in her punches if you tried to exchange with her," Ashley told Bed-Stuy Patch.

To prepare for the fight, Ashley said she worked on her movement and speed to help negate the power of her opponent.

"Most power punchers have to stay in one spot in order to be effective, but if you move [opponents will] usually get off balance and lose the accuracy of their punches," Ashley said."My stategy was to move, hit her and move again. Never staying in one spot long enough for her to get comfortable."

Ashley said, she felt pretty good physically, before and after the fight. But because she was able to stick a lot of powerful punches with Villalobos, her knuckles were sore.

"As long as I fought my fight, it was easy to manipulate her," she added.

Ashley is one of the first women ever to begin boxing professionally. And now, at age 44, she continues to dominate the sport, so much so, the Guinness Book of World Records is reviewing Ashley as the oldest active professional female boxer to hold a world championship.

Ashley says she will step in the ring again in three months to face off with a new challenger of her world title.
